| The last couple of weeks have been a total blur. Everything converged between work, kids, and oh yeah - we moved! We tried very hard between all the packing and late work nights and switching up dinner plans and who can do what with the kids to fit in a few fun things so that the kids wouldn't completely hate us during the process. I would say that they handled the crazy very very well. We couldn't have done any of this without our parents and friends. Again - our village always keeps us sane. Between Mom A coming down to help with the move in so many ways, to Allison and Rigby bringing us dinner one night, to my parents storing our weird African stuff and cleaning and unpacking, to both Moms watching the kids....we made it through alive. My four reports at work got submitted, Jeff had many milestones at work, the house was packed, we managed to have some fun, the movers arrived on time and nothing was lost or broke (....so far), and we're all still speaking to each other. I would say that this move was a total success. I'm so glad it is over and it's so nice to feel like we can really settle down. Our rental house until this point in Charlotte was wonderful, but it wasn't home. Not our home at least. There's definitely an emotional difference and pros and cons to both living situations. I'm looking foward to decorating, gardening, and getting to know our neighbors. This isn't stuff we got to do in our rental house. I was rocking Silas to sleep the other night in his new room and it was the coolest feeling to think for the first time in his life, "this is where you are going to grow up." Ever since the beginning of Silas, we've been on the move and haven't been able to really have him especially settled. Tyndell finally got her purple room that she's been speaking of for some time now. Jeff got a man cave (bonus room above the garage). And I'm just enjoying the nesting part of it all. Wow - I'm turning into such a sap! Anyway - during the weekend before our move, we took breaks from packing to carve pumpkins with friends - the sweet Blythe/Lee and Snyder families that we know from the kids' previous school. It was a blast seeing the kids in their costumes, carving pumpkins, having pizza and yummy apps and drinks together, and tasting Craig's pumpkin seeds! Good times. The following day after some more packing, Jeff took Tyndell to the Panther's game during Silas' nap and I was able to kick out a bit more progress. This past weekend was the actual house closing/moving/unpacking process on Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Jeff even went over to the rental with my parents and cleaned and got everything out to lock it up once and for all. So we are only in one residence officially now! There is nothing on walls yet, but we should have some time in the next week to get a little more organized. Thanks to everyone that made this move possible - from the text messages, FB posts of encouragement, and offers of help - thank you! Man do we feel loved! The following are some of my favorite phrases from the move week: "Did you pack my frog?! What? I wanted you to pack that last!" - Tyndell "Did you pack my pom poms? What? I wanted you to pack that last!" - Tyndell "Uh-oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" - Silas "Have you seen my shoes?" "Were they packed in a box? Are you really asking me this?" - Jeff and Brooke "Where is the little girl that lives here? Can she play?" - our new little neighbor girl, Claire "Have you seen....." "Are you really about to ask this?" - Jeff and Brooke "I'm taking a shower finally." "Can you do that? Is there soap anywhere?" - Jeff and Brooke "What if Tyndell hates it? What are you going to do?" -Brandon on the color of Tyndell's room "You missed a spot. It's still blue. Right there. You missed a spot." - Mom A on painting duty "Why don't you let me help more?" - Mom T as she is about to lose her voice with a cold We love all of you! Yay! We survived and with some fun and good laughs mixed in too. |
